Increase Vault Engagement

Overview

The Vault allows users to securely enter personal information—like birthdate, ZIP code, or occupation—and earn rewards for doing so. This update aims to boost engagement by encouraging users to input more information with bonus points while improving Caden's data set.

Problem

Users were not engaging with the Vault, were unmotivated to share data, and the data input flow was lengthy and confusing.

Existing Designs

The existing designs left much room for improvement. Completing the Vault was a lengthy process. Often, users would abandon set up midway through the process or not start at all. Also, there were areas of friction becuase the user had to save each input as they go, then go back to the "meGraph", then navigate to the next section, etc.

The Vault was hidden in the hamburger menu and often missed. Also, there was hardly any education or motivation as to why the user should complete these tasks.

New Designs

The new flow prioritizes efficiency and security. We condensed the onboarding. We implemented an, "auto-save" which would allow the user to quickly continue on to the next section, and we removed the, "meGraph" which was an unnecessary layer in the hierarchy. For security reasons, we also needed to add user ID verification here via a third party.

We condensed the process in to two steps.

Highlights

Auto-save

This feature implementation was a huge undertaking on the technical side, but expediting this flow and gathering more data was enough cause to build.

We also made it extremely easy for the user to get to the next section once the data has been saved.

Verification & Education

For security reasons we needed to add a third party ID verification. Since that will require senstive information, we felt this section of the app would be best for it since it's secure behind a PIN.

Another important update included adding more language around what the user will gain from sharing this data. This concept seemed to be misunderstood by users.

Naviagtion Update

This was a necessary architectual change to increase engagement and gave us the ability to implement notifications on the vault tab.

Post-Launch Metrics

More Vault Visits

We saw much more engagement with the vault because of the major navigation changes. Users were coming back after their first session. This could also be a result of improving communications about how the vault impacts earnings on the dashboard and through other communication channels.

Decrease Session Length

We monitored flows from PIN entry to the last section of data input (Political Affiliation) and found users were getting through the pages quicker and were less likely to abandon midway.

Increased Data

After launch, we saw an increase in data provided and also an increase of users getting through each section of the vault. This is likely due to the UX optimatizations, user education, and architectural updates. The order of the pages greatly impacted what data was shared but left as is for this update.

Learning

This was huge and highly impactful update. We learned users don't need as much onboarding as we thought. One feature I'd like to implement next is a progress bar as the user fills out their vault. This way they can better understand where they are in the journey. Also, since the order of the pages greatly impacted the data provided, in the future we could consider making the pages more dynamic so we can alter based on our needs.
